Outside Interiors 1.0

Local dancers will swap their ballet flats for sneakers, leotards for trackies and wooden floor for grass and concrete for Outside Interiors 1.0, a new contemporary dance work presented at the Orange Regional Museum. Orange born and bred professional contemporary dancer and choreographer Rosslyn Wythes and Melbourne sound designer James Hogan will turn their ideas about dance inside out on 28 January 2017 at 2pm.

They will welcome audiences to inhabit Orange’s newest museum and surrounding areas in surprising and unexpected ways. Audiences will follow performers in promenade fashion through the series of short work, include a collaboration between Wythes and Melbourne composer James Hogan, a series of short solo pieces performed by students of Colour City Dance and crafted by Wythes as well as a group work choreographed and performed by Colour City Dance’s competition dance troupe.

This is a platform for students to challenge their ideas about dance, where it is performed, how it is performed and how it is made. A Q&A will follow, giving you and the students the opportunity to ask professional artists the ins and outs of having a career in the Arts. Bring any of those burning questions!

The works will be the outcome of a series of workshops that combines the creativity of these young local dancers and the experiences of Wythes. The workshops will focus on exploring the knowledge of European contemporary dance techniques and choreographic strategies Wythes learnt during her intensive study at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). SEAD is one of Europe’s most prestigious schools.

This project has been supported by Arts NSW (Regional Youth Artist Scholarship), Orange Regional Museum, Orange City Council, Colourcity Dance, the Orange Regional Arts Foundation and the Country Women’s Association.
