Wave
Wave explores canon as a choreographic tool. The possibilities of canon in music composition have been profound and I believe there is more potential for canon's translation in dance. Canon is dance that references itself. Wave reimagine canon in dance by using the ideas of cognitive scientist and physicist Douglas Hoftstader. In particular, his ideas of “strange loops” and “tangled hierarchies”, where organisms that self-reference take on a life of their own.

Set material, improvisation and a combination of both set material and improvisation are used to create systems of canon; becoming what Hofstadter calls a “tangled hierarchy”.

Under the umbrella of Wave Rosslyn is creating a dance work, video installation exhibition, dance film and a series of paintings. These projects include:

Weaving Line is a series of drawings and paintings that document the experience and memory of the movement research I have been undertaking for A Reflection on Canon. Exploring how movement ideas around canon then translate back to the page. This exhibition is in collaboration with Thomas Saulgrain, Investigations Géométriques. Learn more about his work here.

The research phase for this work has been supported by Dance Makers Collective's Making Spaces Program (AU), Pianofabriek (BE), GC Ten Weyngaert (BE), GC De Maalbeek (BE), The Artist Commons, Cunst-link, the Creative Dancers Living Award and Sparkling Solutions.
